KATHERINE COURTHOUSE MECHANICAL SERVICES UPGRADE

Airducter was engaged to deliver a comprehensive mechanical services upgrade at the Katherine Local Court, modernising critical HVAC infrastructure to improve reliability, performance and long-term maintainability of the facility. The project included the staged replacement of key plant while maintaining continued operation of the occupied courthouse environment.

The scope of works included the removal and replacement of two air-cooled chillers, installation of a new chilled water distribution network and expansion tank, replacement of five chilled water air handling units, upgrades to associated ductwork and ventilation systems, installation of a new toilet exhaust system, and integration of a new Chiller Management System (CMS) and Building Management System (BMS) controls platform.

A key project challenge was delivering the upgrade within a live operational courthouse environment. Airducter implemented staged construction methodologies to maintain cooling availability throughout the works, ensuring one chiller remained operational at all times and sequencing air handling unit replacements to avoid complete shutdown of the building.

The upgraded controls platform included graphical plant interfaces, controllers, sensors, actuators and integrated chilled water control strategies to enable improved plant sequencing, monitoring and responsive cooling demand across the facility.

Mechanical testing, balancing and commissioning activities have been completed, with final project close-out documentation currently being finalised prior to contractual completion. Airducter’s scope also included delivery of operating and maintenance manuals, certification, shop drawings and as-constructed documentation to support long-term operation of the facility.

Through detailed planning, regional delivery capability and staged execution, Airducter successfully modernised the Katherine Local Court HVAC infrastructure while maintaining continuity of building operations and delivering a more efficient, reliable and serviceable mechanical services solution.
