RDH RAPID ASSESSMENT & PLANNING UNIT

The Rapid Assessment and Planning Unit (RAPU) was a new emergency department at Royal Darwin Hospital developed within the existing main ward block to reduce waiting times, speed up patient admissions and improve patient flow, as a result of the 2002 Bali bombings.

Airducter carried out the design, supply and installation of a new air conditioning system which included air handing units, chilled water pipework, return air fan, control systems, modifying the existing system, as well as commissioning and balancing of the system once completed.

This project was one of the world’s first to benefit from air conditioning design and installation incorporating SMAC, the latest enhancement technologies which provide optimum comfort conditions, improved indoor air quality at elevated supply chilled water temperatures, and minimal energy input.

Due to the level of success with this project, Airducter were the winners of the Northern Territory ANZSES Sustainability Award at the Australian Engineering Excellence Awards 2008 and a finalist in the National Australian Engineering Excellence Awards in the same year.
