US AIR FORCE SQUADRON FACILITIES RAAF TINDAL
Following the award of mechanical services works for the United States Air Force Squadron Operations Facility at RAAF Base Darwin, Airducter was also selected to deliver the mechanical services package for the corresponding facility at RAAF Base Tindal. Together, these projects supported the delivery of key operational infrastructure designed to support USAF deployments and training operations in Northern Australia.
This strategically significant facility forms part of the infrastructure developed to support United States Air Force operations in Australia and has been designed to accommodate and support up to eight aircraft deployments. The facility supports operational readiness and training activities through purpose-built administration, communications and support spaces.
Airducter delivered the complete mechanical services package, including air conditioning and ventilation systems across the facility.
The air conditioning installation centered around a concealed ducted reverse cycle Air Handling Unit (AHU) serving the primary occupied areas of the building. Conditioned air is distributed through a network of main and branch ductwork connected to Variable Air Volume (VAV) terminals, providing individually controlled zones throughout the facility. Each zone incorporates local thermostatic control to maintain occupant comfort and operational performance.
The system also incorporated a Dedicated Outdoor Air System (DOAS) to provide controlled outside air to the building via VSD-regulated airflow and filtration, supporting indoor air quality and ventilation requirements.
Additional reverse cycle fan coil units (FCUs) were installed to service critical support spaces including the mechanical room, electrical room and TEF/communications room, with associated external condensing units mounted on engineered concrete plinths.
Airducter’s scope also included the installation of ventilation systems servicing amenities and breakout spaces through inline ducted exhaust systems, incorporating ceiling-mounted exhaust grilles, rigid and flexible ductwork, weatherproof discharge louvres and make-up air provisions.
This project highlights Airducter’s capability to deliver sophisticated HVAC and ventilation solutions for complex defence infrastructure, supporting mission-critical environments and long-term operational resilience within Northern Australia.
